How we count

What We Mean by System, Automation Step and Scope

These three terms set the limits on the cards above, and they mean the same thing in every quote.

System
A separately deployed or isolated resource environment, such as a database, a CMS, a CRM, a paper-document workflow, a website, an ecommerce system, an existing AWS environment, a storefront, or a similar resource.
Automation step
Communication between systems or processes. That includes two-way communication, API setup, webhooks, file uploads, file transfers, database connections and transactions, single sign-on (SSO), and background processes.
Scope
Everything we agree with you in writing and attach to your quote. Anything outside that scope needs a new quote and a separate payment.

Answered Before You Ask

Is my job too small?

Probably not. A Small Build is $199 and covers an initial site build, a redesign of an existing site, a secure site launch, or a prototype of an application, up to 5 pages. Groundwork starts at $499 and adds 1 working connection between 2 systems, such as a form that reaches your email or CRM, or puts your site on a supported cloud service. Have something smaller still? Tell us the result you need and we will confirm what fits.

Why not just bill by the hour?

Because you are buying a result, not our time. A written scope tells you exactly what you get and what it costs. If the conditions turn out to be materially different from what we scoped, we stop and requote before continuing, rather than letting a bill grow quietly.

What is not included in the price?

Hosting, domains, licenses, subscriptions, and processing fees stay in accounts you own and are billed to you directly by each vendor whenever practical. Where we must place an approved charge on your behalf, that amount is collected before we incur it.

Is there an annual contract?

No. Project work ends when the work is handed over. The monthly partnership is month to month under a separate written agreement, so you are never locked into a year to have us look after what we built for you.

Can I start smaller?

Yes, and often you should. A Small Build is $199, Groundwork adds 1 working connection from $499, a Quick Win fixes problems in an existing system or connects up to 3 systems from $1,500, and the $495 review tells you what is worth building before you commit to more. You decide what comes next from the result.

Who owns what you build for me?

What we build specifically for you, your accounts and the documentation are yours after full payment. Our own reusable tools and components stay ours, and you have the right to use them in the finished work.
